Napoleon Perdis China doll foundation review

So I finally tried out another ridiculously expensive non-imressive foundation I got as a sample from Ulta. I'm not sure as to what shade I received since it didn't say so anywhere :/ but I am guessing it's either Look 1 or Look 2 (see all shades here). The claim is that you'll have "Porcelain skin, just like a living doll." I sooo did not feel like one lol. So here goes the review!

Napoleon Perdis China doll foundation

Price: $50

What they say: A lightweight, long wearing luxe liquid formula that combines the benefits of a self-setting foundation and powder in one. Designed for ample playtime before setting to a soft velvet finish that takes you from perfect to precious.

Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Water, Isododecane, Octylododecyl Neopentanoate, Cyclomethicone, Butylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Silica, Nylon-12, Talc, Dimethiconce Crosspolymer-3, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Sodium Chloride, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polydodecanamideaminium Triazadiphenylethene-sulfonate, Polyvinylalcohol Crosspolymer, Propylene Carbonate, Chrondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Xanthan Gum, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Phytantriol, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.... Phew! What an extensive list!

The good stuff:
  • 8 Shades to choose from... not bad
  • Smooth, lightweight formula
  • Applies nicely, easy to smooth on
  • Absorbs well, dries to a soft finish
  • Sheer/medium but buildable coverage
  • Not cakey or powdery looking
  • Nice, smooth, even toned finish
  • Long-wearing

The low-down:

  • Extremely expensive!
  • Smudges under eyes, doesn't conceal dark circles too well
  • Shades are hard to pick! (will explain)
  • Turns a little powdery in certain places
  • Nothing super special IMO :/
My take: Again, this was another one of those overpriced foundations that don't perform incredibly well. Like I mentioned, I was not sure of what shade I had since it wasn't noted anywhere on the packet, and it just looked so dark! Way too dark for my skin tone! Luckily however, once applied, it was a perfect match for my skin and didn't give me an orange cast in natural lighting like Smashbox's Hi-def Healthy FX foundation.

The texture was smooth but not as liquidy as the Smashbox foundation and not as thick as my Skinfood BB cream. It was somewhere in between, but still smooth and blendable. The coverage was lightweight but buildable, absorbed quickly and left a nice soft looking finish to my skin. However, it did dry powder and flakey around my nose and lip line... but not horribly noticeable. The coverage did last all day but ended up smudging around my eyes and did not cover my dark circles very well anyway. Again, overall, this is not something I really would bother spending my money on. It is a nice foundation but nothing too impressive.

Looks so dark!

Did not cover my freckles or dark circles

How the foundation generally performs in different lighting:

And my fashion for today lol... I ♥ tube tops even though I hardly wear them xD My favs are mainly sleeveless tops though. I hate halter tops :P I love this tube top from Everblue on Oahu (edited my bra strap color so it would match and look less retarded color lol still looks kind of dumb but I wore a jacket over it later xD) Yay arms getting smaller hehe :3

What are your favorite kinds of tops?
