LUSH Ocean Salt review

Price (Lush USA): $32.95 for 8.8 oz., $18.55 for 4.2 oz.

(I got this through a swap, thanks Maria!)

What they say: We make this best-selling scrub out of fine and course sea salt to give your skin a fresh glow like you've just spent a week at the beach. Brightening and cleansing grapefruit infusion and lime oil are balanced with nutritious and moisturizing fresh avocado butter and coconut fat. Cleanse with Ocean Salt and you'll notice an immediate difference. We recommend those with flaky or dry skin use this once a week to exfoliate while those with oily skin cleanse daily with it (lucky you!).

What's in it: Fine Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride), Fresh Grapefruit Infusion (Citrus grandis), Coarse Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride), Stearic Acid, Fresh Lime Extracted in Vodka (Citrus aurantifolia), Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Glycol Cetearate, Triethanolamine, Fresh Avocado Butter (Persea gratissima), Coconut Fat (Cocos nucifera), Lime Oil (Citrus aurantifolia), Seaweed Absolute (Fucus vesiculosus), Violet Leaf Absolute (Viola odorata), Glycerine, Lanolin, Cetearyl Alcohol, *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume, FD&C Blue No. 1, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

The good stuff:

  • A little goes a long way
  • Smooths skin & improves texture
  • More radiant complexion
  • Natural ingredients
  • Great exfoliant for face AND body
  • Helps with oily skin

The low-down:

  • Expensive
  • Might be too harsh for some people
  • Smell might bother some people
  • Crappy packaging
  • Mine wasn't blue! :(

My take: I really like this scrub! First thing I want to note though, is that mine wasn't blue like the pictures on the product page :( I guess the blue part... melted? When I received it, mine was pretty much whitish and SLIGHTLY blue/green. But not pretty and blue like on the website. Oh well.

Mine is also A LOT more grainy than I've read in other reviews, but this isn't a problem for me. I use this in the shower, so the big grains dissolve quickly and it doesn't bother me. However for people with sensitive skin, it might be too harsh! THe good thing is if it's too harsh for your face, you can use it on your body too for soft smooth skin.

The smell might also bother some people, at first it is refreshing but after awhile I didn't like it so much. But then again you're washing it off so it doesn't matter too much. I used this scrub for a week straight, day & night, and it DID give me super soft skin and a glowing complexion as promised. It also was great at cutting back oil and leaving my skin feeling very clean and refreshed. But as with most products that give great results, my skin starts to tolerate it after awhile and doesn't get that same radiant glow like when I first started using it. So now I only use it 1-2 times a week to give my skin a great pick-me-up =)

My only gripe with this product is that the packaging sucks. Well I can't complain because many LUSH products are in tubs anyway. But still. I don't really like products in tubs because of the contamination issues... plus I find that the scrub tends to get stuck around the rim of the tub, which makes it harder to tightly close the lid when I'm done using it. But eh, not a huge deal.

Would I repurchase: Probably, if I had a LUSH where I live :(

  1. Wow. I really like the part where you said it controls oil well! But the price is a bit on the steep side...thanks for the review!

  5. I love Ocean Salt!! It does look like that the one you have might actually be the UK version (there are two different kinds of Ocean Salt haha). But a little does go a long way - I've had mine for a month and it looks like I've barely touched it!

  8. Diana gave me a sample once. I couldn't bring it to use on my face. IDK why, but I really liked it as a body scrub! :) I don't think mine was blue either though.
