Christmas FOTD - Sugar Plum Fairy

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, and wishing you all a Happy New Year :)
I did this look for xmas dinner at our house. Not too different from my usual smoky eye, just added a berry-hued blush and lipstick and metallic brownbone highlight, which made me think of "Sugar Plum Fairy"

(please ignore messy background and awkward hand poses lol idk what to do with myself sometimes)

Face

  • Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer
  • Neutrogena Shine Control Primer
  • Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer in Almond
  • Revlon Color Stay Whipped Creme Foundation in Nude
  • ELF Studio Blush in Berry Merry
  • ELF Studio Blush in Gotta Glow

Eyes

  • Brows: Maybelline Brow Pencil in Blonde, NYX Eyebrow Marker in Medium
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Yogurt -- Highlight
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Shakedown -- Lid
  • Bronze from Stila Eye For Color Palette -- Crease
  • Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow in Trashed -- Outer-V
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cottage Cheese -- Inner corners/below lower lash line
  • Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Black
  • NYX Lashes - Review

Lips

  • NYX Lipliner in Nude
  • Maybelline Baby Lips in Grape Vine
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Violet Frenzy

I am currently on the hunt for the perfect purple lipstick. I saw Revlon's Violet Frenzy at Long's and decided to pick it up since it looked bright and purple! However, as seen in the pictures, it's much more magenta/fuchsia than purple. I think I'll try Va Va Violet next :) If anyone has recommendations for good drugstore purple lipsticks, please share!

Product Overview and FOTD: Tokidoki Prisma Lip Gloss in Strawberry Latte

Tokidoki Prisma Lip Gloss in Strawberry Latte over
Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Pink Please

Just wanted to do a really quick overview on this gloss! I got it from Sephora when I was in Vegas and it was on sale for $5! Score! Although adorable, I would not have paid the original price tag of $15 for it, nor do I think it is worth that much!
The good stuff:
  • Adorable packaging
  • Has a sweet flavor
  • Nice high-shine gloss
The low-down:
  • Has practically no tint to it at all. Basically a clear gloss
  • The scent/taste might be too sweet for some
  • The lasting power is really bad
Overall:
I love this gloss because it adds beautiful high-shine to any lip color! Unfortunately the wear-time is very very short. I'd say an hour tops. So if you want it to last, you have to keep reapplying. I don't have a problem with the candy-sweet scent & taste, but if you're not a fan of flavored glosses then I'd steer clear of this. It also is basically just a clear gloss. No tint at all to it. So mainly I just use this gloss to add a pop of shine to any lip color for a short while!

What am I wearing?
Eyes
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer
  • Maybelline Eyebrow Pencil in Medium Brown
  • Stila Eye for Color Eyeshadow Palette - Coffee all over lid
  • Stila Eye for Color Eyeshadow Palette - Burgandy on outer-v
  • Stila Eye for Color Eyeshadow Palette - Porcelain below the brow
  • Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow in Trashed on outer-v
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Perversion
  • Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in Black
  • Velour Lashes in Lash in the City
Lips
  • Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Pink Please
  • Tokidoki Prisma Gloss in Strawberry Latte
Face
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
  • Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer in Almond
  • Lovely Me:Ex BB Cream
  • Revlon Photoready Pressed Powder in Light/Med
  • ELF Bronzer in Sunkissed

EOTD/FOTD: Halloween Purple Glitter Smokey Eye & Cat Makeup!

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!

I didn't get to dress up for work but I did a little fancier-than-usual eyemakeup to get in the spirit ;P I did a purple glitter smokey eye using Maybelline's Eye Studio Color Explosion palette in Amethyst Ablaze (my fav purple palette!) I used pink glitter from NYX's glitter cream eyeshadow palette in Sweet Chocolate Browns.

These circle lenses are EOS Adult Violets (the new version). I did a review on them here. They are really not at all that bold except in pictures/very direct sunlight. Overall they just make my eyes look "dark." But they photograph nicely :)

Lippie is Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Color in Pink Please with Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Peach Petal over it.

Later when I got home I also decided to do some cat makeup just for fun :)
All I did was add on a nose & whiskers with dark brown eyeliner. Then touched up my makeup a bit to add a dramatic wing with a light black eyeshadow on the outer and inner corners of my eyes.

Mrawrrr! Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween!

FOTD: Curls & Marilyn Monroe Inspired Makeup

Hey everyone! I haven't posted a FOTD in awhile so just though I'd share this one :) I was bored last night and decided to play around with my hair and makeup.

First I think I should note that I am completely inept when it comes to anything hair-related. The only thing I can safely do is thin my hair out with a razor and flat iron it :( I cannot, for the life of me; curl, braid, up-do, hair bow, etc. I try to watch tutorials but never can get it right -_- Anywho last night I decided to give curling my hair another shot. I watched Kandee Johnson's tutorial for curling hair with a flat iron. I don't have a curling iron (yet) so I wanted to try this method out! Her video was easy to follow even for a hair novice like me :)

After much trial and error, I got this far! Which I think was pretty good considering I've only tried to curl my hair maybe 2 other times in my life, which were completely failures XD

I did it in small sections, and after I had done majority of my hair, I bunched some of the small sections into bigger sections and re-curled them all at the same time.

Then lots of hair spray!

I also played around with a Marilyn Monroe-inspired look just for the fun of it :) -- Red lips & a classic cat-eye, and I added her beauty spot too ;P I don't wear red lipstick ever (I actually borrowed my mom's for this!) But I think sometimes it can be fun!

Here's a list of the products I used for this look:

Face:
- Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
- Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation in Nude

- Dermablend Smooth Indulgence Concealer in Almond
- ELF Blush in Gotta Glow to highlight & ELF Bronzer in Sunkissed to contour

Eyes:
- Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Perversion
- Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen in Black
- Wet n Wild Color Icon eyeshadow in Trashed all over lid
- Stila Eye for Color Eyeshadow palette - Burgundy in outer-v
- Stila Eye for Color Eyeshadow palette - Porcelain to highlight below brow
- NYX false lashes

Lips:
- Lancome Color Design Lipstick in Sugared Maple
- Colortrend Lip juice in Cherry Truffle

- - -

Some highlights about the makeup I've been loving lately:
  • I really like the Revlon whipped foundation because it covers imperfections and photographs really well, but it is also heavy and can be cakey. I also don't use it very often because when I did, I feel it was the cause of some breakouts because it is so heavy and doesn't let my skin breathe. Other than that though, it is a great foundation for photos and does last allll day :)
  • The Wet n Wild Color Icon eyeshadow in Trashed is my favvvv black eyeshadow right now! It is black with silver sparkles :) It is nicely pigmented and you can easily build the intensity for a very dark black, or use just a little for subtle touch of darkness. Plus it's only like $2!!!
  • If you have a choice between Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Zero and Perversion, GET PERVERSION! If you like the blackest black eyeliner, go with Perversion. It is wayyy deeper & darker than my old fav, Zero. I also feel like the formulation is better & lasts much longer without smudging. Love it! Also (not used in this FOTD) I'm in love with Smashbox's Limitless eyeliner in Onyx. Also very black and long-lasting. Goodstuff!
  • Dermablend concealer is pretty much my new best friend. I thought I'd never find a product to cover up my horrid dark circles, but THIS IS THE PRODUCT!!! It is very pricy for a tiny tube ($22 for 0.3 oz) but it does the job perfectly. Completely covers up dark circles, pimples, and redness, AND wears all day!
Hope everyone's having a great October!

Your thoughts on... Multi-purposing your makeup + A Multi-purpose EOTD/FOTD

Hello loves! Today I wanted to share my thoughts on Multi-purposing your makeup. I am a believer that makeup doesn't have to have limitations. Just because something is labeled as "eyeshadow" or "blush" doesn't mean you ALWAYS have to use it as such!

I got this Revlon Perle eyeshadow in "Brushed Copper" from a swap with Ndoodles! It's a gorgeous champagne shade.

It's a little too light for me to use as just a lid shade, but it makes a wonderful highlight!

The multi-purpose?It also makes a wonderful highlight for cheeks!
Applied with a light hand, it gives a nice, subtle glow.
The glitter is not overpowering and gives off pretty shimmers.

Another product I use daily for a TOTALLY different purpose than it is intended for is DHC Rose Beauty Eye Zone Treatment Retouch Q10. I got this from a swap with Angela of SparkleMidori. I tried using this a few times as an undereye concealer, but it is too sheer for my dark circles and caused my eyeliner to smudge really quickly.

The multi-purpose?I decided to use it as a lip primer/concealer!

NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, this does not contain ingredients that would be harmful to lips. I mean, I use regular concealer/foundation on my lips all the time too, and that doesn't cause me any problems. I could not find an actual ingredient list, but I did find this list from Lotus Palace: olive oil essence, Coenzyme Q10, a sunscreen of SPF30 PA+++ and clear rose pigment.
It perfectly lightens up the pigmentation of my lips and preps for lipcolor, which shows up A LOT better! Also, with continued use, it has made my lips much smoother and softer : )

Another product I like to make alternative use of is BLUSH!

The multi-purpose?
Layered over lipbalm, you can create so many gorgeous custom lipcolors using blush! This is MAC "Style" poweder blush over EOS lip balm.

This is ELF Natural Radiance Blusher "Glow" over MAC "Style" powder blush over EOS lip balm. Tell me that isn't gorgeous!

This is ELF Natural Radiance Blusher "Glow" by itself, over EOS lip balm.

The last product I wanted to talk about is BRONZER.

The multi-purpose?
If you don't like the way a bronzer looks on your face, you can use it as eyeshadow!
You can also use the individual shades for different uses.

- - - - - - - EOTD/FOTD - - - - - - -For this EOTD/FOTD, I'm using ELF's Studio Warm Bronzer; the individual colors as eyeshadow, the pink shade as blush, and the shades mixed together as a contour shade.

While the pigmentation of the individual bronzer shades are only average, layered over ELF mineral eye primer, they make for a great neutral eye look. Shade 2 and 3 are good for highlights. Shade 1 and 4 are good for lid/crease shades. I also used shade 2 as a blush. I used all the shades swirled together to contour my cheekbones.

• To finish the eye look, I applied a dark brown shade (5) from my Wet N Wild Color Icon palette in "Vanity" on my lid.

• To finish the lips, I topped off the blush lipcolor with NYX Round lip gloss in "Whipped" and YSL Golden Gloss in "Golden Peony."

• For the rest of my face, I used a light dusting of EDM pressed powder in "Light" + MAC MSF Natural in "Medium." For my cheeks, I layered over the pink shade from the ELF Studio Bronzer with ELF Studio Blush in "Candid Coral" and MAC powder blush in "Style."

The finished look:
(I realize that the majority of my FOTDs/EOTDs look like this, lol. What can I say, I like browns/golds :P)

So what are your thoughts on multi-purposing your makeup?Do you multi-purpose any products? Thinking of trying it?

EOTD/FOTD Feat. Rimmel Eye Glam e/s: Smoky Charcoal-Brown + a Pop of Teal!

Hello loves! Just wanted to share a look I did the other day. I wanted to test out the Rimmel Glam Eyes eyeshadows I recently posted about. Sadly, they are a lot more powdery and not as intensely pigmented on my eyes VS when I swatched them on my hand :( They are still decent though. Not the worst I've tried, and they were inexpensive so I can't complaing TOO much :P

I also decided to pull out my Sephora Collector's Edition Palette, since I haven't got to play around with it much yet. So I decided to go simple and add a pop of color below my lashline, to match my shirt : ) I have to say I am really happy with this palette. The shadows are a lot more pigmented and smooth than my Sephora Color Play Palette, which after awhile has lost its pigmentation and turned chalky. I hope that doesn't happen with this palette!

EDM Haul + Swatches + FOTD

I also got my Everyday Minerals order in yesterday! I don't think I've mentioned it too in-depth, but I absolutely LOVE EDM's pressed powder. I have been a loyal user of EDM for nearly 3 years. I did a review wayyy back when (too lazy to dig it up :P) While their loose powders are great, I just hate dealing with the mess. Their pressed powders are so convenient and the finish is LOVE.

Two of the reasons why I love EDM:
They're Eco-Friendly AND Cruelty-Free! ♥

I like that they got these new compacts rather than the old cardboard packaging. Admittedly, a little less eco-friendly, but more sturdy and hygenic.

It comes with a flocked sponge (not that good IMO :P)

It has a lid to separate the sponge from the powder.

The one thing I don't like about EDM is that they are always changing up their shades! :( And the shade descriptions are not very accurate IMO. The last shade I used was Fairly Light Golden. It was a tad light but for the most part, matched me pretty well.

But they didn't have that shade anymore, so I decided to get Light, which is described as: "For light to medium complexions with golden undertones"
I think that describes my skintone pretty well, right?

It looks like a good match.

Even on the sponge, it comes out dark.

HOWEVER...
When I swatched it on my hand...
Uh oh! It's so light! Well, this was swiped like 3 times. And my hand is darker than my face. But still. It worried me.

Anyhoodles... This is why I love EDM's pressed powder.
THE FINISH IS LOVE.

Smooth, flawless, lightweight, full-coverage, matte (but not cakey). No other powder I've ever tried has given me such an amazingly flawless yet natural finish.

HOWEVER...

It turns out that "Light" seems to be around 1-2 shades too light -_-; Stupid shade description. I think I should have tried the shade Buttered Tan, which is described as: "For medium complexions with peach/yellow undertones." Wah.

I should note though that my normal skin color of my face is already about 1 shade ligher than my neck/chest because I use Cellnique's Derma Brightening Complex, which whitens/brightens skin.

So I added a dusting of ELF Studio Warm Bronzer all over my face, applied MAC powder blush in "Style" on the apples of my cheeks, and contoured using ELF's Studio Warm Bronzer. It certainly warmed up the shade, but is it still too light?

(flash was kinda too strong in this one)

To me, it still seems kind of light. If it was one shade darker (damn you, Buttered Tan, I will be back for you!), then I think it would have been better. Even though I like the whiter/brighter look, I'm still not sure about this shade.

Another HOWEVER...
When I asked my mom what she thought about it, she said it was nice and was not too light at all. She said it matched my skintone.
Hrrmmm....

I think I will just try to apply it more lightly and then wait to get Buttered Tan.
I hate it when you're unsure about how a foundation looks but to other people it looks fine -_-;

Can't forget the freebies!
Another thing I love about EDM is that you can get 1 free sample set of blush, concealer, face powder, etc. with every order. So of course, I got blushes.

This is the Coral Matte Blush set.

From left to right: Weekend Getaway, Nick Nack, All Smiles.

The shades are all nice though, especially All Smiles, whish is a pretty coraly peachy shade. I think Nick Nack might be a little too light for me, but it's a pretty pastel pink. Weekend Getaway is a darker rosy pink. Nick Nack and Weekend Getaway are on the sheer side, and take some building up to see the color. All Smiles is super pigmented!

These blushes are super finely milled and soft... thus, super powdery. And I hate dealing with loose powder. So I'm waiting on some supplies to come in, and I'll be trying my hand at pressing these blushes : )
